Everyday with files in OneDrive/Sharepoint

How do I use OneDrive and SharePoint in my daily work?

OneDrive and SharePoint is a file storage program that stores files in the cloud at Microsoft. With OneDrive and SharePoint your files are available online so that you can access your files from different devices.

OneDrive and SharePoint can be synced to your local computer and remote desktop, so you can access the files through File Explorer. This requires your computer to have an Internet connection to ensure that the latest version of a document always is available on your computer as well as online.

Icons in OneDrive

OneDrive use different icons to indicate if a document is synced, is synchronizing or if the synchronizing is failing.

It is important to be aware of these icons. This especially counts if the OneDrive symbol in the lower-right corner of the taskbar reports errors. By clicking on the symbol, you can get more information about the error.

You can read more about the meaning of the different icons on Microsoft's website: What do the OneDrive icons mean?

If you cannot solve your sync problem, please contact our Hotline as soon as possible.. Using OneDrive while there are current sync issues increases the risk of data being lost when the issue is resolved. The reason for this is that synchronization has stopped, i.e. when the problem is resolved, the local version of the document must be synchronized with the online version, which means that there is a risk of data loss in one and/or the other version.

Sharing files in OneDrive

SharePoint is your company's shared cloud stoage. If you previously had one or more shared drives before switching to SharePoint, the files from the shared drives are now in SharePoint.

OneDrive is your private cloud stoage. If you previously had a personal drive before switching to OneDrive, then your files are now stored in OneDrive. You can share you files in OneDrive with others. You'll always be able to see who a OneDrive file is shared with and stop sharing.
